Reflections - Danny Bracey

Reflections - Landscapes by  Danny Bracey

PictureHow many reflections of Danny Can you see?

East Anglian landscape artist Danny Bracey is quietly spoken and on first acquaintance somewhat unassuming, he has that deceptively soft, accent of the region which can fool the inattentive into assuming a certain lack of acuity, look  beyond the apparent and, like the deceiving landscape of East Anglia you will find there is much more to be revealed.

The Lowestoft born artist’s self effacing laconicism, when gently teased away reveals a profundity of feeling for the countryside around him whether it’s the skeletal outline of a tree, the intense shimmering of a carpet of bluebells in the cool shade of a wood or a quaint corner of Norwich.

My Sunday morning interview with Danny (in an appropriately reflective mood) was delightfully relaxed.  Slowly I discovered the private views  of a man who sees in real colour.

Working mostly in oil with pallet knives, Danny does not restrict himself to his immediate environment, the vibrant colours of Crete can also be found in his work. Sunsets, seascapes, mountains and olive groves all are portrayed as if we have a direct insight to the artists memory.

“I am inspired by the beauty of nature, there is a random interaction of forces that create that beauty, my desire is to portray a glimpse of that beauty and the forces shaping it”.

Danny likes to exaggerate colour in his paintings to capture the intensity he feels  when he first sees a landscape,  sometimes revisiting a piece several times before he is happy that his vivid impressions are reflected in the work itself.  His palette is reminiscent of Franz Marc who along with Van Gogh are among the masters Danny admires, but he feels that any influence from them is probably unconscious rather than deliberate. Danny's  work is small, set in generous mounts , within unobtrusive black frames. Perhaps the work is as self effacing as the man, but little gems await the observant.
One thing is definitely evident, Danny's colourful works are currently a bargain.
