This concludes the three part article on Holding form or Ding Shi, to develop Sung (active relaxation). Leave 10 minutes aside toward the end of your practice session for Ding Shi. Begin with a posture you know well, perhaps 'Single whip' a double weighted posture is easier to begin with, and settle in to it. Now calm your mind and concentrate on your arms, be sure the position is correct and systematically work back from the fingertips of your right arm and relax each muscle that is not needed to maintain the position, this may need several attempts. Repeat this process for each part of your body, do not expect to get it all first time, but with persistence you will get there. Don't rush, stay calm, focussed, and centred, practice regularly and consistently. Remember to enjoy the process, deepen your awareness and be patient.
